What Will You Be Wearing To The Grey Gardens Premiere In Your Living Room Tonight?

Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange stars of Grey Gardens which premiered on Tuesday in New York at The Ziegfeld.

From Style.com HERE

The good news is that everyone was quickly won over by the film, which re-creates not only the documentary that turned the mother-daughter duo into cult heroines, but the earlier events that led them to such unique circumstances as well. We counted at least two standing ovations, one when Barrymore absolutely nailed the scene in the garden where Little Edie riffs on her skirt costume ("the perfect look for the day"), and another when Lange as Big Edie belts out a number from her filthy bedroom. At the after-party at the Pierre hotel—which happens to be where Little Edie had her coming out on New Year's Day in 1936—Barrymore looked very Old Hollywood in an Alberta Ferretti dress, net veil, and marcelled hair. "I really thought reactions could go either way," she smiled. "So I'm pleased everyone is saying they're liking it."

  1. I'll most likely take my shower and watch Grey Gardens in my nightgown and robe. Although my passion for night clothes numbers at least a 'Baker's Dozen' of robes in my closet, I bet I'll grab my favorite, 20yr. old, terry, Elaine robe, cuddle up on my nice big wingback, with a glass of Chardonnay close by, on the end table, and my faithful Collie at my feet. I'm sure this movie will not be of interest to my husband, so Sergei (my loyal dog)and I will enjoy it together.

Love your blog and I keep coming back. :)

  2. We ditched cable T.V. so I'll have to wait for the Netflix debut (at which time I will be dressed similarly to jerseygirl211). If Mo had stayed put in fair CA, I expect we would be watching it together (still dressed similarly to jerseygirl211). I'm looking forward to hearing about it from y'all though!

  3. Can't wait ... will wear something age appropriate, i.e. Big Edie style! I have a bottle of champagne chilling too. I love both of these actors.

  4. I shall be wearing my favourite red floral flannel pajamas. Very chic for evening wear. Especially when paired with a pale yellow terrycloth towel, wrapped loosely around my head and held together with my grandmother's diamond brooch.

    Edward is coming au naturel.

  6. I was dressed comfortably in black sitting in bed like Big Edie. I loved it. Drew was magnificent and the scene with big Edie singing in bed Jessica nailed it. Lovely.

I suppose I'll get to see it eventually :(

  8. * G' morning! Well, for what it's "WORTH", here's MY take, such as it is & without too much thought (hey, it's earrrrly!):

PROS: DREW!!! She was absolutely BRILLIANT~~~ award-winning ~~~ has truly grown into her craft! Jessica was great. "Terriffic set" (The "house inspection" scene had my mouth on the floor, so I guess it was pretty darned believable!).

CONS: Often difficult to follow (script a bit TOO disjointed?). Family connections seemingly unclear. Lots of unanswered "questions".

Most "interesting" thing? That you knew them,Valorie!!! Quite a pair... really quite sad...

All in all, "interesting"...worth watching, I guess, but depressing (for me, anyway).

I'll probably/may get skewered for my "assessments", but, differences of opinion... and taste... make the world go 'round, huh?

    Happy Sunday!
    Hugs, Linda *

  9. Since I won't get to view the film until it's out on DVD, it's been interesting to read what others are saying so far this morning.

(Linda/"Mom, I don't think you'll get skewered for your views on the Vamp's blog. You're never mean or nasty. And you're not out there wearing an anonymous disguise shooting poison darts. You're standing there as Linda in the cowboy hat, adding spice to the conversation. I'm hooked on the Visual Vamp's blog, and I'm always happy to see your comments on there so regularly. It's like seeing a familiar face each day. I'll bet a lot of us will find the movie depressing. How could it not be terribly sad? I'm so interested in their story though, that I'm going to give it a try. However, it's very possible I might not be able to finish it (I never know). I started watching an Andy Warhol documentary over the week-end, but the destructiveness of the people who hung out in "The Factory" was so depressing that I couldn't finish watching.

Anyhoooo, thanks sooooo much!!! And TU Valorie, for your blog AND for letting us free FREE enough TO say what we feel!

  11. Linda/"Mom" For any of us that know you from RMS and The Blogs, know what a seetheart you are and we are always interested in what you have to say.

As for the movie.....Would you believe that I didn't get to see it. :( We had been having problems with our cable provider for months, and last month my DH(she writes with clenched teeth) cancelled HBO from them and never told me. @~!*^` I couldn't believe it. I may not talk to him for the next month. I may even have gone to bed with a slight tear in my eye. Like Carey, I'll just have to wait for the DVD.

    Disappointed

  13. unfortuately -i wasn't wearing anything terribly creative. I was at a friends house in a t-shirt and jeans. Not even a skirt or sweater on my head! :-(

  14. I agree, Carey. I can't believe the nerve of some blogs, implying that VV made up her story about meeting the Beales. They are just jealous.

  15. Lipstick. If I had cats, they would have watched it with me.

  16. Yes Anonymous, I'm sure there are a few folks out there who are jealous of the Visual Vamp. But pettiness is easy to spot, and the Vamp is a pretty good sport about it.
