Velvet and Linen, Brooke and Steve Giannetti In Veranda!
I just got the July/August issue of Veranda and woo-to-the-hoo, blogger Brooke Giannetti and her husband Steve have their beach house in the issue! And Steve did the drop dead gorgeous photography (with Lisa Romerin). There are eight fab pages to swoon over!
I love these two! So a big smooch and a heartfelt congratulations to them!

French Twist
CUE Magazine June 2011 - interior decoration by Valorie HartI have been writing about one of my projects HERE, and have the great fortune to have it recently published in the June 2011 issue of CUE magazine HERE.
It's been a wonderful project, and it is so nice to see it published. Writer Lee Cutrone did a great job of telling the story; photographer Greg Miles took amazing photos; editor Missy Wilkinson steered the story and layout to an amazing result.
Thanks to perch. for the support and gorgeous fabrics and furnishings. And thanks to Nicole Cohen of Sketch42 for the rock star tray she made for this project.
Some things did not make it on page, like a credit for Jack Mayberry who was commissioned to do the awesome painting in the living room shot.
CUE is the pride of New Orleans, the local lifestyle magazine that could hold its own on the national level with its excellent features on fashion and home decor. And I am always very proud when they include me!

Inspired News
The fabric house Kravet and Lee Jofa publish a nifty glossy publication called "inspired.news".
I get it at the shop I work in, because it's a trade publication. It is so beautiful, that I investigated how you might get it too.
The full color photos are spectacular, and the articles in this issue feature designer projects that inspire Kravet. They use established designers, and up and coming talent too. This particular issue is all about color, and they got some interesting folks to share a project that reflects their philosophy about color, and that demonstrates his or her personality about color.
In the editorial Scott Kravet tells us that he has laid eyes on millions if not billions of color. He says that he can confidently say there is no such thing as the perfect color. Do you agree?
Colorist designers Miles Redd, Diamond and Barrata, Kelly Wearstler, Todd Romano, Jonathan Adler, Allegra Hicks, Michael Weiss, Barclay Butera, and more, all have oversize large glossy photos to drool over.
Barclay ButeraThere's a Proustian style questionnaire with Vicente Wolf, and even a recipe, and a cool DIY feature about re-sizing art.
I've captured some images to share with you, but they just are not doing justice to the magazine I hold in my hands.

Bloggers In The November Magazines
It's always a thrill to see bloggers in print. Bloggers are fast becoming the kings and queens of all media, crossing over into print, online magazines, other blogs and web sites, podcasts, TV, and YouTube.
Gwen Driscoll of Ragland Social Hill has a MAJOR editorial in the November 2010 issue of Elle Decor. Nothing is up online at Elle Decor, so be sure to pick up this issue and check out her fabulous interior design work (page 230 entitled "Homeward Bound).
The November issue of House Beautiful is called "The Ultimate Entertaining Issue." Again they are slow to even have the cover up online. Note to magazines: Keep your web sites current.
Mentioned in a feature starting on page 118 called "101 Party Do's and Don'ts" are many designers weighing in, and quite a few bloggers offered their party tips including Eddie Ross and Joni Webb.
This past July Alberto and I were in New York, and went to a fabulous party at the home of Eddie Ross and Jaithan Kochar.
It was the best party with many bloggers in attendance: Reggie Darling, Debra Phillips 5th and State, Lauren Leiss from Pure Style Home, Michelle Ginnerty from My Notting Hill, Elizabeth Moyer from Pretty Pink Tulips, Patricia van Essche from PVE, and probably a few more we didn't get to meet in the huge crush of revelers and Green Acres (what I affectionately call Eddie and Jaithan's country manse).

At the party at Green Acres, we also met the fabulous Elizabeth Mayhew, author of Flip For Decorating, NBC Today Show regular, and the current and new-ish editor of Woman's Day.
Elizabeth was fascinated by the reactions we bloggers had to one another, squealing and laughing and hugging and kissing, and she was quite taken that many of us had not met in person up until meeting at this party.
She asked if we would mind having our photo taken for the November issue she was working on
where Woman's Day wants you to focus on a few important things like staying connected. She was duly impressed with the connection bloggers have and foster among one another.
So go out and get an arm load of magazines this weekend, and sit on the porch with a glass of wine or a cup of tea. Leaf through the pages while enjoying the fine weather and your blog friends saying hi to you from the pages.
And if you missed blog TV star Meg Fairfax from Pigtown on The Nate Berkus Show, go HERE

Melissa Rufty And My Ikat Pillows
I love Melissa Rufty's work. She elevates the traditional with her own expressive use of color and fabrics and wallpaper.

Melissa Rufty has a terrific editorial featuring her home, in the October 2010 issue of House Beautiful. And while I was gathering images I saw these Ikat pillows, and had an OMG moment.

So much has changed for me in the last couple of years. I'm back at work in the design world, and loving every minute of it. I've met so many wonderful people because of blogging and working at perch. And I still have those first Ikat pillows I bought!

Lunch With The Boys
Shall we dash off for lunch with the boys today? They have invited us to their Portofino home for a little nosh.

We could have lunch in the dining room, or maybe in the kitchen, or even out of the terrace. The boys take their entertaining seriously. When they are at this holiday house, they regularly host a cast of rotating celebrities like you and me.

After lunch we could have a tete-a-tete, or maybe stretch our on the banquette for a little siesta in the poetry nook in the living room.

I die! Those leopard banquettes are divine!
Maybe if it gets too late, the boys will offer one of their guests rooms to us so we can spend the night in this paradise.

Time to say goodbye. We can stroll through the beautiful sea side garden and bid a fond farewell to our hosts, who tell us, " Growing up, my family never had much money. We are so grateful for all we have, but we don't live for this. There are houses that you enter, whether they belong to a young person or the rich, and there is a feeling that's bellissima. You say to yourself, In this house there is amore, love. It doesn't matter if everything is real or fake, or the furniture is from the flea market or designed by a famous decorator".

The boys, if you haven't guessed are Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. This is their Portofino home, "Villa Olivetta" featured in the current September 2010 issue of In Style magazine.
Their runway to room style is noted. It seems so many fashion designers segue into interior design effortlessly.
A new book is coming out: The Council of Fashion Designers of America and Assouline are publishing "American Fashion Designers At Home.' Written by Rima Suqi, a contributor to T and The New York Times.

The interiors, which range from luxurious — like Eva Chow’s gold-leafed Los Angeles living room or Tory Burch’s opulent, surprisingly conservative Manhattan apartment — to industrial-funky, like Rachel Comey’s Long Island weekend house." Jonathan Adler did jeans, not much of a fashion design really.
Adler tells us HERE the collection--which includes three looks for men and three looks for women--was inspired by "my favorite destinations, especially Capri, Palm Beach, and Big Sur. I wanted to create the looks that I would want to see a girl rock in any of those locales." His signature bright color palette and whimsical prints adorn tunics, polo shirts, and skinny jeans, which the designer admits isn't too far a cry from wallpaper and ottomans: "Honestly, design is design. I took some of my signature motifs and patterns and thought about how to make them work in fashion. It was fun and easy."
Is design design as Adler says? What kind of fashion design would Gerrie Bremermann do? I could see Kelly Weastler doing fashion, and maybe Phillipe Starck. What ID would you like to see design a line of fashion apparel?

You'll Love This Stuff
Huff-DewberryHere are a few things that have caught my eye, and I thought maybe you'd enjoy them too.
First up:

Second, another man I adore, Michael Pelkey is in this month's issue of Southern Living.
His front porch in his Key West home is featured.
The photo is from the new book Perfect Porches where you can see more of Michael Pelkey's home, as well as many other gorgeous porches. Written by Paula Wallace, a co-founder of The Savannah College of Art and Design.
Last is this clipping of a fresh way to use a folding screen. The work of Huff-Dewberry is featured in this month's "Better Homes and Gardens decorating" magazine. You can see more of Huff-Dewberry HERE.
