The New Marthas

Eddie Ross and Martha Stewart

Do you think that Martha Stewart finds it amusing that there is always someone pointing out who the "new" Martha might be? Like, does she think, what's wrong with the original Martha who is still going strong.

Do the people who get called the "new" Martha feel bad that they are not seen as themselves, but as Martha clones?

Two men, not women come to mind as being lauded as the "new" Martha. One is Eddie Ross and the other is P. Allen Smith.

Let's compare them with the original:

Eddie Ross. Age 30ish. We all know him as a fellow blogger (he also tweets and has a Facebook page). He worked for the original Martha as a senior editor, has been on TV (most known for being on Bravo's Top Design), been featured in scores of magazines, and is working on a book. He lives in a country house, loves gardening and cooking, and can expertly decorate and style, and brilliantly shop and give workshops and lectures.. He's openly gay and has a partner (Jaithan) who he shares his life with. Eddie does not own any animals.

They all have Country Homes:

Eddie's (and Jaithan's) country house
They say it's a charming dump and rent not own
It has no name, but I propose Green Acres

P. Allen Smith's country home
A Greek Revival home on 650 acres he owns not rents

One of Martha Stewart's many homes she owns
This one in Maine and called Skylands

P. Allen Smith. Age 50ish. He has his own TV show (mostly shown in the wee hours of Sunday morning), and appears often on the Today Show. He is a master gardener. He lives in the country. He loves chickens (and all animals). He built his home. He's an accomplished decorator and stylist. P. Allen is rumored to be gay, and also to a have a wife. P. Allen does not blog or Twitter, but he does have a Facebook page.

They were the original chicken lovers

P. Allen Smith loves chickens!
"They saved me," said Mr. Smith about the birds in his life

Eddie Ross does not own any chickens
But he sure knows how to decorate with chicken eggs

Martha Stewart. Age 60ish. She has tons of animals, and does all the of the above (except for being single and gay unless there is something Perez Hilton hasn't told us yet), and she did it first, and did it best. See all her homes HERE

Let's compare them:

Busts:

Eddie Ross has a classic bust in his living room

Where's the fun?

Gardening:
They all have gorgeous gardens and do wonderful floral arranging~

P. Allen Smith is a Master Gardener
His grounds at Moss Mountain include more than 175,000 daffodils
and 50 varieties of heirloom tomatoes

He is an avid gardener and a Master Florist

Kitchens and Dining:

So what do you think?

If there had to be someone proclaimed the "new" Martha who should it be?

Should it be a man? Should it be Eddie? Should it be P. Allen?
Or should the media stop doing stupid stories like this one HERE, and let Martha be the one and only forever and ever, and let Eddie be fabulous as Eddie, and P. Allen as fabulous as he is.

I'm sure no one likes to be called the new or old anything.

Needless to say I adore each and everyone of these uber talented people!

Who's Dog Is This?

Who's dog is this?

It's Martha's doggie Sharkey!

Her house looks amazing for Christmas, and she shares "a peek" with 25 photos of it on The Martha Blog.

The photos are of course amazing and homey at the same time. Martha's gift is that whatever she does she leaves you with the feeling that it's possible for you to do some of it too.

She has a new line of ornaments out that she mixes in with her beautiful vintage collection of things. It's wonderful how she spreads Christmas decorations all over her house, and it doesn't look junky.

Do take a look at the photos of her home, and if you have time go to her shadow blog The Daily Wag, and see another couple of dozen photos of the decorations with her pets.

Martha is a true animal lover, and shares all her perfection with the dogs and cats.

Cholo is not very curious about Christmas decorations. I think I move things around so much that the hustle and bustle of Christmas decorating is just another day in his life with a serial decorator ha ha.

Cholo could care less about Christmas decorations

What about your pets? Are they curious about Christmas decorations?

What's A Servery?

The vote is in! My Modern Creole room made it to the next round thanks to each and everyone of you! The next vote takes place on October 26, and y'all know I will give you a heads up ha ha.

In the meantime after all the color we saw at Apartment Therapy's Room For Color Contest, I thought I'd post something pale. In my search, I came across these images, and forgive me, just did a little cut and pasting today.

I guess you can say, you've been served! In a good way of course!

Thank you again my gentle readers, friends, fans, enemies, Face Book friends, family, and most of all Alberto for helping me make it through another round of voting.
That's the good news - the bad news is that you will be asked to do it again!

And now for the burning question of the day: What's a servery? Is it a made up word? No it is not! Read the official definition HERE and see more images.

From Martha Stewart: The small dining room can be accessed through the double doors in the servery. The space includes freezer drawers for storage, plus an ice maker and warming drawers for entertaining. Two dishwashers ease clean-up, and the marble floor can be vacuumed and washed with a damp mop. The wall color is matched to the cupboards, and the gentle, cool tones make a cohesive whole of many diverse features.

See how clever storage, fine materials, and surprising details make this space shine.

Martha did not want the cupboards to look like ordinary built-ins, so she designed a pair of long counters with marble tops; on one of them are glass-sided cabinets. They look so light and keep the area very airy in appearance.

Here is a view of two of the islands and the ovens behinds them, looking into the kitchen from the servery. It's where Martha sometimes has breakfast.

The office functions as a media center. There's a large-screen television for watching programs and DVDs, plus a computer, printer, and scanner for email, projects, research, and accessing recipes. Several small cubbies hold messages, paper, and supplies. At the desk, you'll also find telephones and a Sirius satellite radio.

A very well-used part of the kitchen is the cappuccino counter; there's the grand machine and two grinders -- for regular and decaffeinated beans -- for fresh grounds. On the machine, Italian cups stay warm, and everyday dishes and the like fill shelves.

Martha keeps a vintage juicer near the deep vegetable sink, where she rinses and preps produce. She has a few paper towel holders around the room, and old enamel brackets with milk-glass shelves hold kitchenware. The windows let in sunlight, which at times is tempered by translucent shades.

And one last burning question: Is a servery the same as a butler's pantry?
