Happy Weekend! I Heart The Holidays!

Hope you are all enjoying this first long holiday weekend.
Kicked it off watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade on television, and continuing the weekend with putting up the tree and outside decorations. I'm totally enjoying myself!
This year the Macy's parade introduced three new balloons, among them Figure With Heart, by artist Keith Haring. Keith would have been 50 year this year. You can read more HERE
I've never been a Black Friday shopper. I hate crowds and it seems so vulgar and not fun to scratch and grab merchandise in order to save a couple of bucks.
In a way, I am glad that consumerism is taking a pause this year. It's time to get more real regarding Christmas, to enjoy each other, and the spirit of the season.
Decorating is the gift that keeps on giving!
What do you think? Will you enjoy Christmas with less crazy shopping?

Never seen the Macys parade live, but those giant balloons look great.

I love the part of christmas that involves decorating! As for consumerism, I love a little but a lot gets ugly.

Ditto on the less crazy shopping! As a matter of fact, we use the internet more and more each year. But I like to take one or two trips out...just to window shop.

We are talking about getting our tree today (earliest ever for us)because Husband is away for the next week.

I'll bet your decorating is GORGEOUS! Do show!!

I'm with you 100% on this one, Valorie. I hate the malls and all the associated angst over the "hunt" for the least expensive or the really cheap merchandise. Better to enjoy the peace and beauty as we decorate and remember just what we are doing and why.
Happiest of Holidays from now till Twelfth Night and then into "the season" in NOLA!

Love that balloon and the story behind it. Great to see dreams being realized. It is a shame Keith Haring is not alive to see the dream turn to reality.

Black Friday is ROUGH! I am with you.. I get all my shopping done early so I can cozy up to the fire the day after Thanksgiving!!!

It is special this year.
I am glad we are learning , though it may be a painful lesson the way it has come about through this brutal economy, what is truly important.

big hug xx

I mostly avoided the malls until today- I couldn't resist checking out the sales...but it was miserable- too many people!

Hope you had a great holiday!

Yes indeed, making and crafting gifts from the heart, preparing to make room is what the holidays are about.
Great balloon!
