Your Thoughts Please

Believe it or not, this is a Mom Cave
Your thoughts please...

There's a cute play on words going around to describe a current decorating trend: Mom Cave.
Every woman (and man and child) needs their own space in the home. Some of us have artist studios, or craft rooms, or garden sheds. Some of us hide out in a bathroom. Maybe your bedroom is your private space, or a sun room is your sanctuary. Home offices are big these days too.

The blue morning room at Clarence House

In the old days, grand homes had "morning rooms", usually on the ground floor of the house, a room getting the best morning light. Ladies often received visitors and callers here in the morning hours.

The ladies are receiving visitors in the morning room at Clarence House

I call the place I have my morning coffee, and watch the news, and read the paper or blogs, my morning room. It is actually the living room that gets nice morning light. Alberto usually heads upstairs to his Man Cave, where he has his office, along with a sitting room with a TV and furniture to lounge on for naps and reading.

A modern version of a blue morning room aka Mom Cave

Everybody has a morning ritual, and a place to do it. Where do you take your coffee and prepare for the day? Where is your morning room?

A trendy Mom Cave

Where do you go to have a little alone time, have a glass of wine, and contemplate your bippy? And don't tell me it's in the laundry room doing laundry, because that doesn't count.

The bubble bath - a classic Mom Cave

Many love a bath, and can close the bathroom door and soak there alone in peace and quiet.

The girly office makes a nice Mom Cave

Others may have a little office space to pay bills, write email, read the blogs, and read books and magazines.

Homegoods has a whole bunch of stuff and advice as how to create a Mom Cave in your home HERE. What do think of it?

I love the Mom Cave in the top photo. I have an office/study which is very small but where I do most of my work from, but since I live alone my living room is my 'mom cave'. It will be even more so once I get my pink sofas! :)

I thought it was called Man Cave because it was in the basement and ugly. These rooms are hardly caves! I especially like the blue one. But not so much the play on words.

Your right...Mom Caves are all the rage! 4/5 blogs I follow are in the process of making one.....another 20 or so already have one! Hubby and I are contiplating a cloffice...he works from home and I blog from home. Our master bedroom closet is huge so we both could make "caves" in there and call it a cloffice...1/2 office, 1/2 closet.

What a fun post! My morning time is spent in my living room in my worn-out Berger chair with my coffee and my laptop....dog by my side. I've got other spaces I could use that are far prettier, but I guess the comfort factor kicks in...and it's close to the coffee pot! Perhaps I'll upgrade now that it's become such a thing to do.

All I can say about the first room is Ugh! Depressing. I do have to say I love the second pink room though. It's light, bright and cheerful. I could see myself reclining on the chaise with a good book on a lazy afternoon. I don't have a "girl cave" but, if I ever do, that is definitely inspiration!

couldn't quite imagine ma mere in the first two rooms, but as we go further down the file, she could be comfortable.....

Ha, sorry but the first pic looks like a brothel to me! Love the last picture the best. I'm in the process of creating my own girl cave on a shoestring. Great inspiration, thanks!

that first mom cave is dreadful.

i would remove those hideous curtains, put up a tailored roman shade, take out terrible sconce and put up something more modern. then....add a ton more and different pillows..then we might have something..

I like most all the pieces in the first room individually, just not all together in the same room. I start my morning in my study on the computer with my coffee and it does get morning sun.

My husband might say our whole house is the Mom Cave and he has been relegated to the garage and yard. He would be kidding of course, because our family room houses a 54" TV perfect for football viewing. There is something about the term Mom Cave that is too reminiscent of "Mom Jeans" for my taste. Can it be a bright and leafy tree house instead?

My whole house is a Mom Cave but I've been pushing my best friend to create one. She is about to go crazy living with her husband and two stepsons. She needs a Mom Cave to save her sanity.

This is the first I've heard of Mom Caves... hmmmm.... interesting term. Didn't they use to call it "weekend spa getaway"? :)

My current house does not have a mom cave - the closest thing to it is my bathroom, which has a nice deep tub and is a place I love to go and 'get away'. One issue - my bathroom does not have a lock on it - so when my kids are home, I am frequently interrupted.

In the new house we are going to have a library, which I am already claiming as my mom cave. My husband can go to the basement, that will be his man cave.

I HATE the first picture and LOVE the last. The top one looks more bordello-cheap and the bottom very refined and inherently stylish.

The first picture made me feel a bit 'unwell'...and I still feel so, but the others were intersting and fun. I've tried to make everyroom in the house a place where I feel like hanging out but I do have my very own space and it's the office/art room. It's the coffee room in the am, tea room in the afternoon, and in the evening a glass of wine has been known to show up.
There must be a nicer term than "mom cave" though...mine room certainly is not that.

Great post!

I'm in my little cave right now. The first photo scares me a bit...all the rest, especially the bubble bath are lovely,

that first pic made me think mom den of iniquity..

the rest of the pics were lovely!

my grandmother had her "sunroom"...a gorgeous, but small, paneled room with built in book shelves, chintz drapes, chintz upholstery that would still look modern today...the multitude of mullioned windows spoiled me for life...i'm a window snob.:(!

my grandfather had this jewel of a room added on to their house for her birthday sometime in the '50's..

everyone needs their special space, whether it's a fabulous morning room or just a nook that a creative soul chisels out for her/his self...

Since my working design studio is in my home, I have to go outside for my Mom Cave! I sit under the wisteria with my coffee when the weather permits and plan the day. When it rains I'm a little lost wandering soul in the early morning so I go swimming at the gym!

Pressed to call somewhere inside my Mom Cave I would say it is soaking in my big bathtub in the bay window looking out over the oranges trees...sigh!

Love the idea of a mom cave. That first one is awful, but maybe then she can have her privacy and no one else will enter! Love your images.

Our house is too open plan and small for a Mum Cave :( Occasionally I'll attempt to escape to my bedroom. But when I try to hide, they find me :( So, my imagination will have to do. I'll have that glorious bathroom thanks! Aaaah I can only dream...

We must share a brain since I was thinking of a "Mom Cave" post. I heard a nauseating story about it on a morning news show (XM radio in the car) and apparently the designer was flying around the set showing vases and coasters to accent the perfect Mom Cave. For once I was glad I couldn't see something!
Love you blog.
And the girly office makes me swoon.
