Every year the New Orleans Museum of Art hosts the Garden Club for a mega New Orleans Springtime kick-off. Dozens of garden club members do floral displays throughout the museum, and a few merchants are invited to tablescapes, using flowers and incorporating a theme chose by the museum and the garden club.
This year's theme revolved around the 100 year old birthday of the museum, and the tablescapes were especially fun.
There was a luncheon too, with guest speaker Chris Giftos, an idol of mine from way back. Seriously, Chris is someone whose work I studied when I first started my event design business. I would trek to The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York to see his weekly flower arrangements.
Chris was a charming speaker, doing a flower arrangement platform show style, while telling all the ladies great stories about working with Jacqueline Onassis, and meeting a grumpy Greta Garbo.
He toured the tablescape displays, and said they were among the most creative work he has seen anywhere, a great compliment to the interior designers, architects, floral designers, and shop owners in New Orleans.
I had something to do with the concept and design for the shop I work in, perch. This was our second year doing Art In Bloom, and we were wondering if we could top our display last year HERE
I think this year everyone stepped it up, and that the tablescapes were all inclusive design concepts.
I snapped these photos and knew you would all enjoy them! I think there are many great ideas for you to be inspired by, and use yourselves.
I also took some pictures of a few displays that caught my eye outside of the tablescape category, like the grand hall arrangements, and the imaginative displays in a section called "Movers and Shakers".
Of course I love what Caroline, Jack, and I (with the help of our in situ assistants David and Alberto), did this year, and I will blog on it in great detail on the perch. blog later this week. In the meantime here is a sneak peek at our tablescape called "The Grand Dame Turns 100".

And of course hop on over to see that grandest dame of all, Susan, from Between Naps On The Porch HERE, who hosts Tablescape Thursdays every week that has so many other table setting fans showing their stuff!
