In response to my post about the start of hurricane season, a reader, Fifi Flowers commented:
Wow... you live in hurricane season area... I live in never know earthquake season... I wonder if there is a earthquake mix or drink?
Yes dear Fifi there is an Earthquake Cocktail (try it out and let me know what you think):
The Tremblement de Terre (or "Earthquake") Cocktail has been attributed to Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, the French painter. The name is derived from its effects, which tend to "shake up" the drinker.
In a wine goblet mix:
- This is another version of the Earthquake. It is sometimes served with ice cubes (on the rocks in a rocks glass), or shaken (use a cocktail shaker filled with ice to chill it) before serving, and pour into a Martini style glass.
- 1 part gin
- 1 part whiskey (Bourbon)
- 1 part Pernod liquorice liqueur

See... what did I tell you... I would forget things if I drank one of those earthquake cocktails... apparently I drank one... and then posted to you that I researched them and gave you the info after you already posted about the "earthquake cocktail."
Did I say that I love Toulouse?
OMG! I should think the earth would quake after one or two of these!
Is there a cocktail for a mother of four who feels as if she may lose her mind 50% of the time?
In New Orleans, The Hurricane is the cocktail of choice!
1.5 ounces light rum
1.5 ounces dark rum
1 ounce orange juice
1 ounce fresh lime juice (NOT Rose's or RealLime)
1/4 cup passion fruit juice, or 1 tablespoon passion fruit syrup
1 teaspoon superfine sugar
1 teaspoon grenadine
Cherries with stems, and orange slice to garnish
Ice cubes
In a cocktail shaker, mix the rum, passion fruit juice or syrup, the other juices and the sugar until sugar is dissolved. Add the grenadine, and stir to combine, then add ice and shake. Half-fill a glass with ice, then strain drink into glass; add ice, if desired. Garnish with orange slice and cherries.
