A Tale Of Two New Orleans Kitchens - Which One Do You Love?

Kitchen fashions come and go. The Somethings Got To Give kitchen has spawned thousands of versions using white cabinets, white subway tile, black counter tops, pendant lights, stainless appliances, etc.
Will this look go the way of white ceramic tile floors and black appliances from the 1990's? Or cherry wood cabinets and granite?
When I come across kitchens that dare to be different, I get a little thrill. Here are two for you to look at, via The Bayou Contessa (a wildly talented designer and owner of her own exquisite shop in New Orleans, Julie Neil HERE).

The kitchen of artist George Dureau
in an ancient warehouse in The French Quarter

How fabulous to have an antique
French canopy bed in the kitchen
It belonged to his mother

Dining Dureau style

Master cabinet maker
Sherwood Cox did this
incredible kitchen

I love the unmatched cabinets
and the bas relief on the stove hood

Hiding the refrigerator has given way
to showing of stainless French door giants
The antique panels are genius -
the photo below shows how they open
