Okay, okay, so HGTV is getting played out. But I'm hooked, and let it drone on in the background, regurgitating rerun after rerun. Design Star is still fun to watch, and I especially like this year's winner Kim Myles. Last year's hunk du jour David Bromstad is cookie cutter cute in every way, but Kim is a real person, a New York City gal, and a woman winner.
Her new show debuts March 16 on HGTV, called Myles of Style. I already love the promos, with the tag "the streets are my university, these boutiques my homework...".
She is a visual vamp if ever I've seen one!
And check out her yellow living room done for the HGTV competition.

Meet host Kim Myles, from Myles of Style.

Kim has lived in New York City for more than 10 years but it was her childhood in the suburbs that initially drove her to explore interior design as a personal interest. "Growing up in suburbia gave me an aversion to sameness," she says. This hairdresser, who got her start designing her own clothing, jewelry and hats, has no formal design education but uses her city surroundings as inspiration in her design styles, which she describes as "global urban elegance."

We canceled our cable t.v., so I've been out of the HGTV loop for months now. But when we still had it, HGTV was blaring in my ear constantly too. It might be played out, but I've learned TONS about design and decorating from that station. And hey, there's always a new generation of bipeds growing up who need to learn about designing their living spaces.
